for Carlo Mollino (part of CNC Workshop)

• As a kind of embryo, going through many evolutionary steps, this chair has (until now) been created through try and error experimentation. In nature, the most efficient gradually wins. By so, it became an 2mm Mutiplex, ultimate thin seat. Cold and bent by hand (with the temporary help of a wet towel) over a frame of CNC milled plywood.
Where the frame parts intersect, a thickening in the material provides extra clamping tension. The whole is knotted with ropes. In addition, if desired, a roll of packaging foam can be tied against the back of the chair with two ribbons or a cushion can be attached to the seat.
I would like to find the oppertunity to develop the most optimal construction skeleton for this chair (i.e. by executing more physical experiments; sorry, drawn animations are insufficient for this purpose); a bit like natural evolution works. It may then become a pursuit of efficiency. The eye will of course see that the mathematician is right.
Then perhaps, the role of inspiration for this piece of furniture will move from Gerrit Rietveld to Carlo Mollino, or even his successor?
The right shape only needs to be found; as if optimal ratios already exist.
