De deurkruk oogt als een directe vertaling van een conceptschets. Het is duidelijk dat de ronde as draait door druk te zetten op het platte handvat. Samen met het ontwerp van deze basiskruk werd een hele serie van grepen en overig deurbeslag ontwikkeld.
Het ontwerp neemt duidelijk stelling tegen de misplaatste veronderstelling dat ergonomie enkel gediend wordt met een naadloos passende contravorm. De vele betekenisvolle aanrakingen die we kennen, vinden niet zelden hun instructieve spanning doordat de aanraakvlakken van de aanraakpartners juist verschillen.
Het perfectioneren van het maakproces vergde jaren van fijnmechanisch studiewerk en detailkennis van de techniek achter deurbeslag, dat in samenspraak met de wereldwijd opererende firma Formani (www.formani.com) werd uitgevoerd.
This door handle looks like a direct materialisation of a concept sketch. It is obvious, that the round shaft rotates by putting pressure on the flat handle. Together with the design of this basic handle, a whole series of handles and other door fittings was developed.
The design, clearly, takes a stand against the misguided assumption that ergonomics are only served with a seamlessly fitting counter-shape. The many meaningful touches we know, often find their instructive tension because the touch surfaces and shape of the touch partners differ.
Perfecting the manufacturing process required years of mechanical studies and detailed knowledge of the technology behind door fittings which was carried out in consultation with the globally-operating Formani company (www.formani.com) .
